We created six beautifully styled studios within this traditional Lakeland property. The building has deep links to centuries of local heritage, having served as the former head office for generations of the Pattinson family — responsible for shaping much of the built environment of the Lake District since the sixteenth century.
Permitted development rights allowed the conversion of the building from offices into six self-contained suites with unrestricted occupancy. The open-plan layouts were carefully designed to accommodate holidaymakers on extended stays, providing all the comforts of home within a compact 45 square metres.
To maximise the building’s footprint, the internal staircase was removed and replaced with a new external stair. The structure was engineered with minimal supporting posts; just two four-inch posts are anchored to the ground, with each four-storey flight cranked and self-supporting.
Pattinson House was one of many traditional Lakeland buildings we were responsible for converting to residential units over the years. Others include Chapel Ridding, Crown Rigg and The Royal Hotel, all around the Windermere area.
