Twenty-first century re-imagination of a twentieth century agricultural barn

A strategic planning process secured permitted development rights to convert this steel framed barn into five deluxe homes, blending contemporary design with the character of its agricultural past.

We seized the opportunity to design and deliver a boldly contemporary scheme unlike anything previously seen in the area. Drawing inspiration from Scandinavian design principles, we created a new community of five imaginative, larch-clad modern homes, now mellowed to silver grey they sit comfortably within their rural setting.

Each home was designed upside down’ in response to the existing barn’s position within a basin and into a banking. Locating the main living accommodation at first-floor level allowed us to take full advantage of roof-lit, vaulted ceilings, enhancing the sense of space and openness. Storage was integrated wherever possible to promote a clean, minimalist aesthetic, reflecting the overall interior.
